Westchester County requires all volunteer firefighters to successfully complete 150 hours of Firefighter 1 and Self-Rescue curriculum before being certified as an interior firefighter.
Note: Firefighter 1 & Self Rescue courses are generally held in the evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Westchester Department of Emergency Services (4 Dana Rd. Valhalla, NY 10595)

The Millwood Fire Company requires members to respond to 15% of total annual calls, amounting to members spending approximately 36 hours per year responding to emergencies. No one is "on call." We know you're busy- respond to emergencies whenever it best fits your schedule.

Training every Tuesday: 24 hours of training per year required
Monthly meetings: 12 hours of meetings per year required
Responding to calls: 15% of calls, or approximately 36 hours per year
